My last day of work

Today was already the last day for me to work here. The time has really flown by since I came here. Although it was my last day, that didn’t mean I didn’t do anything new, because I did. Today I went to Zachun, a town about 15 kilometers away from Wittenburg, to help at the water sports area. There was a big lake for which Van der Valk has bought the rights, so its now owned by the hotel Hamburg-Wittenburg. When I am saying that I worked at the water sports area doesn’t mean I was on the boat or something like that. Because next to the lake Van der Valk had has bought the rights to own the little restaurant that belongs to the lake. My day started earlier than expected, because the planning was that I would be driven to Zachun at twelve o’clock. Sebastian would be driving me to Zachun, but something came up so I had toride with Anita to Zachun and she already left at ten. This meant that I had to be ready at ten at the reception this morning. So I needed to be informed about this change. My alarm was set at half past ten so this would have been a problem. Luckily I was already awake at nine, which was the time Sebastian called me. So fortunately it turned out too be no problem. So when we arrived at about fifteen past ten we needed to prepare the restaurant and terrace. A colleague and I took care of the terrace for which we had to bring out the chairs, clean all the tables and bring out the pillows. Then we had to help with bringing in some of the glassware and we were ready for the first guests who arrived at eleven. I helped behind the cash desk to sell drinks, ice and food. When we sold anything to eat we had to gave a receipt to the chef cook and when he had finished the meal I, or my colleague had to bring it to the people. So I mostly worked behind the cash desk except for when food was sold and I had to bring it to wherever the guests settled themselves. It didn’t give much problems, because it wasn’t really busy. So we had enough time to pick up the dirty plates from the guests’ tables ourselves and order them to go into the cleaning machine. We needed to place the clean silver- and glassware back to were it belonged after it was clean as well. As I already said it wasn’t really busy, but it was crowded enough to keep ourselves busy. Then around five o’clock my parents arrived at Zachun and, because almost everyone had already left and it was only open for another hour I could stop working and sit outside on the terrace with my parents. This also meant that my working days in Germany were finished. My parents and I stayed till six till we went back to the hotel. My parents had to check in and I showed them their room, which looked exactly the same as my room. When they were ready I took them with me to show them the hotel and give them a little tour. After that we ate in the restaurant upstairs and finally went down to get some drinks in the bar and play some pool. At around 11:30 p.m. we called it a day and went to our rooms. Tomorrow we will be driving back home and my internship here will be a new experience in my life. I liked working here and I had some great colleagues which helped me a lot, so I am very thankful to have been able to work with them. I feel like my German skills have improved which was of course one of the goals in having my internship here. This all meant I look back at a satisfied internship here and I hope that the people here were satisfied about my effort, developments and abilities.
